Recreation areas

Designing towns and cities is not something that one can practice often in small countries like Cyprus. Considering another similar but smaller scale, it was possible for our office to produce some designs for recreation spaces. These projects include parks inside or outside towns, landscaping along city roads, playgrounds for small communities and many central squares in villages or even a design for the capitals central square (Eleutherias square).

An effective design for a recreation facility or park must meet the needs of the client and the users while ensuring the proposed program of use is well adapted to the capabilities of the site. Recreation is the employment of time in a non-profitable way, in many ways also a therapeutic refreshment of one's body or mind. While leisure is more likely a form of entertainment or rest, recreation is active and participatory, but in a refreshing and diverting manner. As people in the world's wealthier regions lead increasingly sedentary life styles, the need for recreation has grown. The rise of so called active vacations exemplify this. We try to





development costs as well as those of the operation and maintenance. All these, along with the fact that recreation areas are usually related to the public sector, demand a very careful and professional approach. Our office especially in the 80’s has designed many of these areas in Cyprus and mainly in Engomi, Nicosia. A district where Mr. Fereos served as vice-mayor for a short time.
